Gliadin Antibodies

Product Details

The gliadin antibody test is used to help diagnose the presence of Coeliac Disease.  Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disorder of the small bowel characterized by mucosal inflammation, villous atrophy and crypt hyperplasia which occurs upon exposure to dietary gluten.  Gluten is a protein found in foods such as wheat, barley, rye and oats.  Coeliac disease usually presents with gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, malabsorption, or weight loss.

Gliadin is a component of the protein found in gluten.  Assessment of gliadin antibodies can indicate whether the patient's immune system is developing an intolerance response to the proteins found in gluten.
