Co-Enzyme Q10

Ubiquinone, otherwise known as Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a fat-soluble nutrient found in the body that is used to produce energy for cell maintenance and growth. It also acts as an antioxidant, helping to reduce oxidative stress on the tissues of the body.  It works alongside selenium and helps to regenerate vitamin E in order to protect the body from oxidative stress.

CoQ10 is essential to the electron transport chain for the synthesis of cellular energy within the mitochondria cells. It is a key nutrient in the health of heart muscle tissue & function and assists in post-exercise recovery.

CoQ10 is found in every cell in the body with high concentrations found in the heart, brain, liver and kidneys. CoQ10 is present in small amounts in a variety of foods.  CoQ10 can be found in: Organ meats such as heart, kidney and liver, beef, sardines, mackerel, peanuts and soy oil.  However concentrations in these foods is quite low.  Low concentrations in foods may necessitate supplementation in certain patients.
